  The GPSMAP® 178 Sounder is a new-generation fully integrated chartplotter and powerful sonar, offering the same brilliant sunlight-readable LCD, powerful features, and simple interface as the GPSMAP 172—all in a compact, value-priced console that leaves fish nowhere to hide. It comes standard with a built-in worldwide marine basemap and accepts MapSource® BlueChart® offshore marine cartography—featuring detailed depth contours, inter-tidal zones, wrecks, navaids, and many other points of interest. For small-water anglers, the GPSMAP 178 Sounder is compatible with MapSource Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots—featuring fishing areas, boat ramps, marinas, and hazards for hundreds of popular U.S. and Canadian lakes. Pre-programmed data cards can be easily inserted into the slot on the front of the unit. The Garmin 178 comes in two antenna configurations, Internal or External. The 178 Internal is great for small open boats with either no top or a bimimi top. The External antenna is reccomended for boats with a T-top or a fiberglass top. The GPSMAP 178's sounder is a 500 watt powerhouse featuring dual frequency operation, bottom lock, automatic gain, sea surface temperature, digital displays and split screen mode. It also has all the other features you would expect from Garmin; a 12 channel WAAS receiver for accuracy up to 10 feet, simple operation, audible alarms, celestial tables and much more.
